As Peter and I rang in the New Year together, I think it was the first time we had enjoyed each other's company in a long time. With all the "going in different directions" everyday for months at a time, without even realizing it "we missed each other". Calinia spent New Year's Eve with friends who celebrated at the church with the High School group. It was hard to ring in the New Year without her, I know it is just another parenting skill that we have been working on this past year, "letting go".
As I think on what is ahead of us this year, I realize that we will be walking into new territory. It is a scary thought on how fast time goes and how it really does get away from us.
I can recall some kindergarten memories and in that same instance recall graduating from college. One moment I am excited about my first job, next thing I realize is that I have been working for 28 years. I remember my Wedding Day and how I felt about getting married and here we are coming into 25 years of marriage (27 years total). I remember how excited I was being pregnant with Calinia and now here she is graduating from High School in 5 months.
This year presents hugh milestones in each of our lives as well as a family. I will be turning 45 this March, Calinia graduates from High School in May, starts college in July, turns 18 in August, Peter turns 60 on September 28th, and we will be celebrating 25 years together two days later.
I heard a saying years ago to this effect "There are many weeds in life, they are known to choke the very breath out of you. In the mist of these weeds there are roses that will enhance and fill your life with purpose, as you go through your journey in life it is what you choose to pick and keep with you that will determine your out come".
As I ponder through my thoughts, I have to thank GOD that I have always stopped to pick up many roses along the way to keep, tend to love and nurture them. It is these precious roses that have enhanced my life to the fullest.
